Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) wines from this 18th century estate
Along with Château Ausone, Cheval-Blanc produces one of two Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) wines. The wine estate dates to the 18th century and grows Cabernet Franc and Merlot wines.
There are mentions of vines in the area of Cheval Blanc since the 15th century. Their fame started in 1832 when Jean-Jacques Ducasse bought the heart of the domain, the first time the wine was sold under the name of Cheval Blanc was in 1852.
The new winery has been designed by Christian de Portzamparc and opened in June 2011. It is a contemporary building made of white concrete, with beautiful simple lines and state-of-the-art technology. It received the prestigious International Architecture Prize in 2013.
