Best beaches for WOW factor, No.2 is in Aquitaine
The UK's Guardian newspaper promotes their choice of the 50 best beaches in the world
Having just published its list of 50 of the best beaches in the world The Guardian has included four French beaches in the Top 20: Aquitaine, French Polynesia, Brittany and Corsica are in the spotlight!
In at number two for the best beaches for wow factor is the "dazzling" Dune du Pilat. Europe's tallest sand dune is certainly a startling feature on the coastline of the Aquitaine region. Only 60km from the city of Bordeaux (around one hour drive) the dune is a major tourist attraction and hosts over one million tourists each year.
Part of the appeal of this stunning natural feature is it's accessibility and the surrounding area. With the Atlantic Ocean on one side and dense forest on the other there is plenty to see and do in this area. For the best views of the entire dune you need to be able to get some distance between you and the dune so a boat trip over to Cap Ferret is a must.
At number two of the 50 best beaches in the world, this one is certainly worth a visit!
