Chateau Giscours, Margaux

Historical chateau producing Premier Cru Classé Margaux

featured in Vineyards & estates Updated

Situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation, this estate has an ideal location. The beautiful chateau and surrounding gardens are home to a B&B.

This estate has a long history which can be traced back as far as the 14th century when it was a defensive tower. In 1522 Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy Bordeaux draper, bought the house turning it into a vast estate and planting the first vines. In the 19th century the castle was renovated and turned into a stunning neoclassical palace.

Their first wine was classified Grand Cru in 1855, and is made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot varieties. They also produce 3 further red wines and a rosé.

The estate can be visited for tours, tastings and thematic visits. The chateau is now also a B&B.

Visitor comments

  • "We toured the cellars and had a generous tasting of three wines. Chateau Giscours produces Third Growth Grand Cru wines, Margaux appellation. So what else can be said? Don't miss the chance to visit." - Trip Advisor
  • "The vineyard is huge and the buildings beautiful. The staff speak good English and the wine was delightful!!" - Trip Advisor
  • "I never imagined that so many smells were present in one glass of red wine. To make the experience even more fun, we were separated into two teams and had a friendly competition going, deciding which smells were present and what vintage a particular wine might be." - Trip Advisor
